Night-shift escort
Also called: marshal · security escort · guard
A night-shift escort is a trained security person who travels in the vehicle on night-shift routes, most often where a woman employee would otherwise be alone with the driver. The escort is separate from the driver and is present for the legs where the risk arises rather than the whole journey.
In practice
- Escorts are assigned at allocation, alongside the driver and vehicle
- Availability is confirmed before dispatch, not discovered at the pickup point
- Escort presence is recorded per trip leg so it can be evidenced later
- Where an escort cannot be sourced, the route is re-sequenced rather than run uncovered
Why it matters
Across most Indian states, employers are generally expected to provide safe transport and accompaniment for women working at night. The obligation is widely understood; what auditors ask for is evidence that it was applied to a specific trip on a specific night.
